Indigenous to South Africa the word protea is derived from Proteus, the name of the Sea God who changed into many forms and it is thus appropiate for the varied family of about 100 different species.

 

 Sylvia

Similar to the Cardinal but smaller, this medium-sized, deep golden red colour flowerhead is borne on long, thin stems. Flower head measuring 8-9 cm long, opening to approximately 6cm. This cutivar grows vigorously and produces a high yield. Leaves are deep green with red veins.

 Rigoletto

A bright red bloom is produced on 40-50 cm stems on this vigorous hybrid. While the young shrub does not produce long stems, mature bushes produce an above average yield of straight stems. Head opens into a fiery red ball, some 8 cm in diameter. Distinctive deep-green leaves, with serrated, soft-brown tips.

 Brenda

A vigorous grower, producing a good yield of long stems, bearing small-sized, deep pink, elongated flowers with a smooth shiny texture and black stamen. Flower head measuring 10 cm long, opening approximately 5 cm in diameter. Green stem and leaves.

 Cardinal

An outstanding hybrid, producing a yield of medium-sized, deep red flowers that have an attractive satin sheen. Flower head measuring 12 cm long, opening to approximately 12cm. Stem length is good and stems are straigth and thin. Leaves are rounded with red veins.

 Pink Ice

A high-yielding, vigorous shrub producing small to medium-sized, silvery-pinnk flowers on long, straight stems with very little secondary growth. Flower head measuring 10 cm long, opening to approximately 6 cm.

 Susara

This cultivar produces unusual but attractive flower heads of soft golden and deep salmon-pink shades with white starmenthat darken at the center. Large flower heads measuring 13 cm long, opening to approximately 12 cm. Grows vigorously, producing a very high yield of long, straight stems.

 Succession II

A vigorous growing, lineare-type producing deep orange flowers on long red stems. Flower head diameter approximately 8 cm. Leaves are narrowly elongated.

 

Flowering In : Sep - Oct

 

 Liebencherry

A high yielding cultivar producing medium-sized, medium-red, flower heads on long, thin stems. Its peak flowering time coincideswith Mother's Day. Flower headmeasuring 10 cm long. Small, dark green stem leaves.
